An orchestra follows your hands. Raise them, find a rhythm and conduct the music around you.

I worked on development and parts of the design for Dome Conductor, made with IVAR Studios and SMASH for KTH Royal Institute of Technology. The interactive installation premiered at Tekniska museet during the 2025 Baltic Sea Festival, bringing the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra into Wisdome Stockholm.

A camera tracks visitors' movements. KTH's machine learning model, trained on recordings of conductors, translates those gestures into tempo: move faster and the orchestra accelerates; pause and it waits. No suit or calibration is needed. KTH researchers Hedvig Kjellström and Mert Mermerci worked on the project, supported by WASP and SeRC.

The experience uses the opening ninety seconds of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, recorded with conductor Daniel Harding. A wide-angle camera captured the orchestra for the dome's 180° projection, while playback lets the visitor set the pace. The musicians also recorded reactions: conduct them successfully and they applaud.
